The Studio has
gained an excellent reputation for fine lettering carved in
wood and stone for a wide variety of public, institutional
and private purposes. Lettering is designed and drawn
according to the commission in hand - we have no standard
style; we are designers as well as makers - and our work in
this area stems from a sound understanding of Western
letter forms which arise from the best of Roman carved and
Renaissance pen and brush letter shapes. Although not
infrequently painted, carved letters rely on the play of
light across the surface which enliven and enhance their
appearance.
